Global gas wars:

the fun has just begun!

By Dmitry Orlov at Club Orlov on September 28, 2021

The shining frozen guy

The shining frozen guy

Spot price for natural gas in Europe has just breached the psychologically important level of $1000 per thousand cubic meters, or a buck a cube. This has already had some significant results all across Europe. In the UK, fertilizer plants can't operate at such prices and have shut down. This will in due course cause food price inflation later on, but the immediate effect is to deprive consumers of packed meat and beer because of a shortage of dry ice that is a byproduct of fertilizer production. Meanwhile, all the way on the other side of what remains of the European Union, in the Baltic statelets electricity prices are now 10 times higher than just across the border in Russia. Of course, they are welcome to buy cheap and plentiful electricity from Russia, but that has to come in via Belarus and Lithuania and the Lithuanians have strategically wrecked relations with Belarus by harboring the fugitive Tikhanovskaya the cutlet queen who is a sort of Belarussian Juan Guaidó.

On the other side of Belarus lies the Ukraine, where things are even more fun. Back in spring of 2019 the Ukraine declined Russia's gracious offer to sell it gas $240-260 per thousand cubes (a quarter of the current spot price) and instead opted to buy it on the spot market. The result is that the Ukraine needs 13 billion cubes of gas in storage to get through the heating season but has less than 5. But it can always buy what it needs on the spot market, right? Wrong! The Ukraine is broke and has zero budgeted for this purpose. Luckily, it can still buy cheap electricity from Russia—at least until Ukrainian nationalists decide to blow up the transmission lines to Russia like they did with the ones to Russian Crimea a while back, causing energy shortages there and forcing the Russians to construct an energy bridge to it from the mainland in a process that took close to a year.

But Unlike the Ukraine, which is broke, countries within the EU don't have to freeze because they can just buy the gas they need on the spot market, in the form of liquified natural gas, right? Wrong! The LNG market is global, and Europe's East Asian competitors—China, South Korea and Japan—can always outbid them for the available supply. These three countries have been running structural deficits with the United States for decades and have accumulated an unwholesome hoard of US federal debt. With the US now nearing national bankruptcy and/or triggering dollar hyperinflation by allowing its national debt to breach the $30 trillion threshold, they are eager to unload as much of this hoard as possible, exchanging it for needed commodities such as natural gas. They don't much care how much the gas is going to cost because the eventual price of the US debt is going to be zero and something is always better than nothing. Thus, there is a good chance that the EU will be shivering in the dark this winter in solidarity with the Ukraine.

But things are much better in the United States which, after all, is a proud exporter of natural gas thanks to what is left of its fracking industry. Wrong again! The Industrial Energy Consumers of America (IECA), a chemical and food industry lobbying group, has just demanded that the US Department of Energy place limits on LNG exports. Otherwise, they say, very high natural gas prices will render numerous US enterprises noncompetitive and force them to shut down. Prices have already gone up by 41% over the past year. But that's not enough to stimulate production: natural gas production in the US is falling together with the drilling rig count and the amount of gas in storage is currently 7.4% below the previous five year average. Attempting to put limits on LNG exports will cause loud screams from energy industry lobbyists, who have plenty of clout on Capitol Hill, and result in protracted political battles in an already sharply divided and disagreeable US Congress.

Meanwhile, back in the EU, there is something that can be done immediately to avert this crisis: turn on NordStream2, which has just been completed, by setting aside European bureaucratic foot-dragging protocols that will stretch out the process of certifying it and by throwing out the truly idiotic restriction that it only be used at 50% capacity. Russia's Gazprom would be perfectly willing to sign a long-term supply agreement at a reasonable price, just as it did with Hungary just a few days ago. But for now such a change of heart seems unlikely. On the one hand the free market fundamentalists are still full of blind faith that the free market will somehow keep their people from freezing; on the other, environmentalists seem to believe that freezing would be a virtuous act that will help save the planet from overheating. Come next spring, melting snow may reveal a political landscape littered with the frozen corpses of environmentalists and free market zealots. We should all wish them the best of luck, of course, whether they deserve it or not.

Liberals: Try Reading Nazi Carl Schmitt!

Luftangriffe auf Dresden

Luftangriffe auf Dresden

Back in early 2018, when Jordan Peterson’s 12 Rules for Life was a global sensation, he was interviewed by North London luvvie Helen Lewis for GQ. In that interview she complained to Peterson about Nietzsche(1:24:44):

You write in your book about Nietzsche, who became the Nazis’ favorite intellectual…

I determined then and there that I would read everything that Nietzsche wrote. Because when Good Little Girls know that something out there is “eeuuww,” you know there’s gold in them thar hills.

I also know that Carl Schmitt – the “German jurist, political theorist, and prominent member of the Nazi Party,” as La Wik puts it – is out of bounds to all respectable people. How do I know? I just know; it’s in the air I breathe.

So last week I decided to brave everything and buy Schmitt’s The Concept of the Political. And it changed my life. You may say that, at age 75, it’s a bit late for that. I couldn’t possibly comment.

Schmitt starts by noticing that nobody has ever defined the political.

In general, “political” is in some way equated with “state,” or at least related to the state. The state then appears as something political, to political as something related to the state[.]

So, it’s up to Schmitt, Nazi or not, to define the political for us. And he does, in Chapter II.

The specific political distinction to which political actions and motives can be traced is the distinction between friend and enemy.

Ouch. That is what changed my life. Schmitt goes on in his smarmy Nazi way to relate the friend-enemy distinction to “good and evil in the moral; beautiful and ugly in the aesthetic.” They are not the same, because only in politics does disagreement lead to conflict.

[The enemy] is just the other, the stranger… so that in extreme cases conflicts with him are possible.

The word “conflict,” he writes, “does not mean competition” or “debate” or the routine “struggle” of life. It means killing.

The terms friend, enemy, and conflict… refer specifically to the real possibility of physical killing.

Carl Schmitt als Student im Jahre 1912

Carl Schmitt als Student im Jahre 1912

Let’s make it real simple. In politics, you need your friends, but you really need an enemy. And when push comes to shove, you have no problem killing your enemies: Jews for Hitler, kulaks for Stalin, “class enemies” for Mao.

What about religion? According to Schmitt, when a disagreement between religions escalates into a “religious war,” the war is political because the opposing religions experience each other as enemies. Same with the Marxist “class struggle.” It may start out as economic or cultural, but when it escalates to civil war -- or world revolution -- we are talking about the classes experiencing each other as enemies, not merely as ordinary exploiters or average wage earners.

The “enemy” experience is key. If you experience other people in politics as beyond the pale – racists, sexists, homophobes – then it is a short step to deciding that they should all be put in jail, or, in the worst case, eliminated.

I notice that when I write something that is going to skewer lefties or wokies or progressives I like to preface the rhetorical jab with “our liberal friends.” Just to show that they are not enemies.

But the problem of our age is that “our liberal friends” believe that politics is the royal road to justice. And politics always needs an enemy; that’s what Nazi Carl Schmitt says, and the Nazis know.

Oh, look! Guess who’s into Carl Schmitt: Peter Thiel! The libertarians at Reason are not amused.

"The high point of politics are the moments in which the enemy is, in concrete clarity, recognized as the enemy," wrote Thiel, quoting Schmitt, in his essay. He would later assign the philosopher to a class he taught at Stanford in 2019.

And here are a couple of quotes I picked up from Curtis Yarvin in his “Rise of the neutral company.” He’s into Carl Schmitt too.

Politics is the exercise of collective power against human opposition.

There is no politics without an enemy.

The thing that worries me is that our liberal friends really have No Idea that their faith in politics is playing with fire. They think they can use the white working class as punching bags, stigmatize them as white supremacists and armed insurrectionists, and continue to rule as they have always done. Living in their bubble they have No Idea that they are stirring up rage and opposition all across the fruited plain.

And they are clumsy. That’s my evaluation of the Steele Dossier, the Trump Russia Collusion, the impeachments, the cancelings, the January 6 “armed insurrection,” the absurd response to the Wu Flu.

These people are flapping around incoherently, and if their wonderful programs haven’t bent the arc of history towards justice it must be the work of the enemy.

Maybe they should read Nazi Carl Schmitt. They might learn something.

UK NBP wholesale natural gas price, pence per therm

1

A Stalingrad for Natural Gas

By Dmitry Orlov at ClubOrlov on September 15, 2021

European natural gas hub spot price has surpassed $900 per thousand cubic meters with the psychologically important threshold of $1 per cubic meter not far off. This is an astronomically high price that is likely to bankrupt a lot of European energy companies while causing their customers to die of exposure this winter.

Just in the UK, where around 10 thousand people freeze to death during a normal winter with normal prices, so far PfP Energy, MoneyPlus Energy, People's Energy and Utility Point have kissed the world good-bye, their customers getting picked up by the government regulator Ofgem. Acting wisely, Ofgem raised the annual price cap for a typical household by £139 to £1,277. Just to make things even more interesting, the underwater cable providing electricity to the UK from France just failed, knocking 1GW out of the 2GW link.

What's behind all of this chaos and mayhem? Call it the wages of stupidity.

The UK went all in on renewable energy—wind and solar—ignoring the fact that "sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun," as the Beatles sang, is a futile pursuit. And now it turns out that there just isn't enough wind to turn the turbines either. As a result, demand for natural gas, which is the go-to fuel for plugging gaping holes in renewable energy supply, is outstripping what is available, resulting in exorbitant electricity prices.

In the European Union, not enough gas has been pumped into underground storage to last through a normal, moderate winter while an Arctic polar vortex forcing cold air far to the south would deplete the supply well ahead of spring. But there is also good news: Russia's Gazprom has just finished laying the last stretch of the NordStream2 pipeline, linking the Baltic coast in its Leningrad region to the German coast. Barring any German bureaucratic foot-dragging and American meddling, it should deliver its first gas in December.

The Americans are, of course, livid, and Republican senators are threatening to block nominations to posts in the Treasury Department because the Biden administration failed to block the completion of the pipeline. Trump wanted to sell US liquefied natural gas to Europe, but Biden wrecked this plan and allowed the pipeline to be completed. Of course, there isn't enough US liquefied natural gas available to have made a difference, and what gas there is goes to Asia, not Europe, because that's where the prices are the highest. "Nothing personal," as Americans like to say, "just business."

But politics is different from business: for the sake of Western political unity, if Americans can't or won't sell Europe enough gas, the Europeans should just keep quiet and slowly freeze in the dark. They certainly must not rush over and buy lots of totalitarian Russian methane molecules to make up the difference.

Meanwhile, European energy companies see in NordStream2 an essential lifeline. It is far less ecologically harmful and more economically sound than it would be to ship liquefied shale gas from across the ocean. The pipeline is 2000 km shorter than any of the existing pipelines to Europe and uses half as many pumping stations. The Germans believe that the launch of NS2 will make their industry more ecological and will enable collaboration with Russia in the area of green energy. Specifically, in the future NS2 will be able to carry some fraction of hydrogen along with the methane, to be separated out upon delivery and used to power all sorts of very dangerous yet very green stuff.

Meanwhile, poor Estonia, which borders the Leningrad region from which comes the gas, left foundering on the forgotten end of what remains of the European Union, has been forced to reopen its shale-burning power plant that the Soviets had the foresight to build for it way back when. They had previously shut it down because burning shale releases a lot of CO2 molecules that Greta could see all the way from Stockholm and that made her quite irate. But high natural gas prices have forced the Estonians to forget global warming and to re-Sovietize. Also, gazing across the 80-km-wide Gulf of Finland they saw the Finns contracting with Russia's Rosatom to build one, maybe two, nuclear reactors, and thought: "Oh, well..."

All of this is, of course, terrible, but the European Parliament is on it, having just agreed the details of a report prepared by Andrius Kubilius, former premier of Estonia's neighbor Lithuania. His report calls on the EU to strengthen its potential to contain Russia.

In this Lithuanians are an exemplary case. They shut down their Ignalinskaya Atomic Energy Station (as a precondition for joining the EU) which the Soviets had so thoughtfully built for them to last into the 2030s. Instead, they are renting a Norwegian natural gas regasification terminal, parked at Klaipeda and called "Independence", for $189,000 per day. They sometimes use this terminal to buy natural gas from Americans... who in turn buy it from the Russians, filling up at a gas terminal around the corner in that selfsame Leningrad region and marking it up 100%. But mostly they just import electricity from neighboring Belarus, where Rosatom just fired up a new nuclear power plant located a short distance from the now defunct Ignalinskaya AES.

In any case, getting back to the European Parliament and their battle against all things Russian, the new report calls on the European Union to exert pressure on Russia to prevent Moscow's meddling in the affairs of EU's eastern and southern member-states. To this end, Brussels should become the single unified center for making decisions with regard to all things anti-Russian. In particular, the EU should be poised to refuse to recognize the results of the Russian State Duma election (which will be held over the next few days), to invest in weapons systems that would make the Russians think twice before invading and, of course, to think up some more sanctions.

But perhaps most importantly, the report calls on European institutions to develop a strategy for lessening the European Union's dependence on Russian resources, energy resources in particular, and on Russian nuclear energy technologies. In this context, in the opinion of the report's authors, NordStream2 increases the risks of "Russian dominance" and should not enter service in spite of the facts that the situation with natural gas in Europe is most dire, that it has already been built or that Gazprom is planning for it to enter into service this December.

This makes perfect sense, because the current huge spike in the spot price of natural gas in Europe is obviously all Gazprom's fault (if not directly Vladimir Putins)—for failing to voluntarily increase export gas flow above the contractually agreed-upon amount. This is a wonderful argument if one's prime directive is to blame Russia for everything that's wrong with the world, but beyond that there are a few other reasons for the chaos.

  1. Over the past two years Western central banks have printed a lot of money but Western economies have failed to produce corresponding quantities of goods and services. Therefore, anybody offering a huge bundle of dollars or euros for something actually useful, such as natural gas, is likely to get punched in the face. Keeping innocent Europeans from freezing to death in their homes is one thing, but helping feed a speculative frenzy in an increasingly worthless currency is quite another.

  2. Alas, the European Union is no longer a prime destination for natural gas. The prices in Asia are 10 to 20% higher and so all LNG tankers go to Asian rather than to European natural gas hubs. The big difference is not even the price but the fact that Southeast Asian economies have quite a lot more to offer in exchange for the natural resources they consume than the European Union does, a good half of which produces hardly anything at all.

  3. Over the past many years the European Union has discriminated against Russia in general and Gazprom in particular in various ways under the guise of furthering free competition, neglecting the fact that when it comes to securing reasonably priced and reliable gas supplies there is no alternative to Gazprom, making it a natural monopoly par excellence. Consequently, in their efforts to construct a buyer's market for natural gas, the Europeans have succeeded in doing the exact opposite.

  4. Last but not least, Europe's headlong plunge into renewables has resulted in very high energy prices and has wrecked its competitiveness in the world markets. Of course, European elites are incapable of acquiescing to this fact, and so their only recourse is to blame the Russians. Perhaps at some point a critical mass of European voters will realize that, in fact, it is the Russians that are attempting to keep them alive whereas their own elites don't care whether they live or die as long as Greta Tunberg is happy and vote out the greenie-meanies; only time will tell.

The Russians, of course, are far from blameless. Instead of crumbling under Western pressure as was expected of them by their self-appointed Western betters, they plotted and schemed and managed to organize for the collective West a sort of natural gas Stalingrad that is sure to teach it an important lesson, of the same kind they had taught Europe under the Teutonic knights in 1242, Europe under Napoleon in 1812 and, again, Europe under Hitler in 1942. As the saying goes, repetition is the key to learning.

Patent 060606 - 00 | Bes and Beset

Bes and Beset

Bes (also spelled as Bisu), together with his feminine counterpart Beset, is an ancient Egyptian deity worshipped as a protector of households and, in particular, of mothers, children, and childbirth. Bes later came to be regarded as the defender of everything good and the enemy of all that is bad. Bes may have been a Middle Kingdom import from Nubia or Somalia, and his cult did not become widespread until the beginning of the New Kingdom. Worship of Bes spread as far north as the area of Syria and as far west as the Balearic Islands (Ibiza) in Spain, and later into the Roman and Achaemenid Empires.

Bill Gates, Vaccinations,

Microchips, And Patent 060606

By Leonid Savin at Oriental Review on April 29, 2020.

There are many conspiracy theories – some believe that reptilians are running the US government and others believe that Coca-Cola uses the blood of Christian babies to produce its soft drinks. There are people who have seen “chemtrails” and others who advocate wearing tinfoil hats when watching television to protect from destructive brainwashing waves. Often, the prophecies of Scripture are interpreted as a commentary on some technological discovery or event. But there are also rational facts that it doesn’t make sense to deny because they are documented. These include the existence of the Bilderberg club, the CIA’s MK-Ultra project, and George Soros’ funding of dubious political activities in a number of countries.

The case described below relates to an officially documented fact, although there is something rather biblical about it. Patent WO/2020/060606 was registered on 26 March 2020. The patent application was filed by Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLC, headed by Bill Gates, back on 20 June 2019, and, on 22 April 2020, the patent was granted international status. The title of the patent is “Cryptocurrency system using body activity data”.

So, what is this invention that the people at Microsoft decided to patent? The abstract of the patent application online states: “Human body activity associated with a task provided to a user may be used in a mining process of a cryptocurrency system. A server may provide a task to a device of a user which is communicatively coupled to the server. A sensor communicatively coupled to or comprised in the device of the user may sense body activity of the user. Body activity data may be generated based on the sensed body activity of the user. The cryptocurrency system communicatively coupled to the device of the user may verify if the body activity data satisfies one or more conditions set by the cryptocurrency system, and award cryptocurrency to the user whose body activity data is verified.”

Bill Gates, Vaccinations, Microchips, And Patent 060606 - 01

In other words, a chip will be inserted into the body that monitors a person’s daily physical activity in return for cryptocurrency. If conditions are met, then the person receives certain bonuses that can be spent on something.

A detailed description of the “invention” provides 28 concepts for how the device could be used.

It also provides a list of countries for which the invention is intended. Essentially, this is all the members of the United Nations and a few regional organisations specified separately – the European Patent Office, the Eurasian Patent Organization, and two African intellectual property protection organisations.

Although inserting microchips into the body is nothing new – the Masonic Youth Child Identification Program has been in operation in the US for a while, and people calling themselves cyborgs exhibit various implants – Microsoft’s involvement is interesting. And why has the patent been given the code number 060606? Is it a coincidence or the deliberate choice of what is referred to in the Book of Revelation as the number of the beast?

Bill Gates’ name is constantly being mentioned these days in connection with his interests in pharmaceutical companies, vaccinations, and WHO funding. Although the globalist media try to highlight Bill Gates as a great philanthropist and protect him from attacks and criticism in every way possible, it is unlikely they’ll be able to conceal a whole web of connections.

Bill Gates’ company is involved in another project – the digital ID project ID2020 Alliance. On the website’s homepage, it says that the project has been addressing the issue of digital rights since 2016. In 2018, the Alliance worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Besides Microsoft, the Alliance includes the Rockefeller Foundation, the design studio IDEO.org (with offices in San Francisco and New York), the consulting firm Accenture, and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance – a company that actively promotes and distributes various vaccines around the world. The Secretariat for the Alliance is based in New York.

Bill Gates, Vaccinations, Microchips, And Patent 060606 - 02

It is telling that Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance mostly covers countries in Africa and Asia. In Europe, the organisation is only active in Albania, Croatia, Moldova and Ukraine, and, in the Caucasus, in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance also has links with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Bank Group, the World Health Organization, and UNICEF. These are all listed as founding partners!

Since February 2020, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance has been focusing on the coronavirus pandemic. The organisation’s CEO is Dr Seth Berkley. Although the headquarters of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance are in Geneva, Berkley himself, an epidemiologist by training, is from New York. Since the late 1980s, he has spent eight years working at the Rockefeller Foundation and is a fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. He is also an advisory council member of the New York-based Acumen Fund.

So, yet another link has been found. Theological interpretations of the patent number are probably best left to experts on religion, but it is clear that there are strong links between organisations and companies like the Rockefeller Foundation, Microsoft, the pharmaceutical lobby and the World Bank Group, not to mention secondary service providers. They are trying to play the role of a supranational government by constantly focusing on the fact that, these days, national governments cannot cope with epidemics, illnesses, famines, etc. single-handed. But, as China has shown, they can. The West cannot and does not want to acknowledge this, however, largely because it does not want to share power. So, the globalist media will continue their information campaigns, where the blame will be placed anywhere but on the West. It is telling that right now, as additional information on the coronavirus has started to emerge, false stories on China’s role in the epidemic have been stepped up and statistics manipulated.

Did the regulators at the FDA know that all previous coronavirus vaccines had failed in animal trials and that the vaccinated animals became either severely ill or died?

Yes, they did.

Did they know that previous coronavirus vaccines had a tendency to “enhance the infection” and “make the disease worse”?

Yes.

Did Dr Anthony Fauci know that coronavirus vaccines had repeatedly failed and increased the severity of the infection?

Yes, he did. (See here: Fauci on ADE)

Did the drug companies conduct any animal trials prior to the FDA’s approval that would have convinced a reasonable person that the vaccines were safe to use on humans?

No, they didn’t.

Did they complete long-term clinical trials to establish whether the vaccines were safe?

No, there were no long-term clinical trials.

Did they conduct any biodistribution studies that showed where the substance in the injection goes in the body?

They did, but the data was not made available to the public.

Do the contents of the vaccine largely collect in various organs and in the lining of the vascular system?

Yes, they do.

Do large amounts of the substance accumulate in the ovaries?

Yes.

Will this effect female fertility and a woman’s ability to safely bring a baby to term?

The drug companies are currently researching this. The results are unknown.

Does the vaccine enter the bloodstream and collect in the lining of the blood vessels forcing the cells to produce the spike protein?

Yes.

Is the spike protein a “biologically active” pathogen?

It is.

Does the spike protein cause blood clots and leaky blood vessels in a large percentage of the people that are vaccinated?

It does, although the blood clots are mostly microscopic and appear in the capillaries. Only a small percentage of vaccinees get strokes or suffer cardiac arrest.

Should people be made aware of these possible bad outcomes before they agree to get vaccinated? (“Informed consent”)

Yes.

And keeps going… See here.
